A positive legacy is very important and I always, with my sporting hat on, relate it to the Olympics.
Notably, Barcelona in 1992 and Athens in 1996 were heavily criticised for creating ‘white elephants’, meaning they built infrastructure for the Games that were, unfortunately, hardly / never used again.
Your strategy needs to be more than ‘statements’ and it cannot be based on unrealistic targets.
Therefore, whilst much of your strategy will be qualitative, you also want it to be quantitative with meaningful / purposeful KPIs.
In this way, you can build a strong strategy which, can be driven through, ensuring benefits are brought to the organisation, ones that are achievable in the short AND long-term.
